bit of a special release we have here with a new collaborative project from belgian duo fcl joining the omnipresent danilo of motor city drum ensemble for some seriously raw, stripped back and undiluted house music. most people will know san soda and red ds fcl project following the brilliant lets go seven release on their we play house label last year as well as their remix of proof for trunkfunk. mcde has become one of the biggest and most revered names in house in recent years having produced the amazing raw cuts series as well as compiling the dj kicks lp which spawned the mcde single l.o.v.e.

justice, the french duo formed by gaspard auge and xavier de rosnay, is the band of a whole generation. when the two friends were still bright students in graphic design, in 2003 they made justice a place to experiment a hybrid genre between music and image, which blends pop and electronic borders, and showcases the talents of 2 fascinating passionate pop culture craftsmen, bored with hierarchy. they met pedro winter who had just founded his label ed banger records, he immediately signs them after listening to >we are your friends< which, with its joyful and vitamin-enriched electro beats combined with exhilarating voices, became the hymn of a whole generation and one of the most important tracks of the year 2000, celebrating a reconciliation of pop music and the dancefloor.

edit king leo zero returns with something very special to kick off a new run of no frills dancefloor bombs that have been tried and tested over the summer on a packed worldwide dj schedule from stockholm to tokyo and beyond. first up is an intensive slice and dice exercise on probably the best track from definitely the best band in the world: the clash. leo takes their most disco friendly outing >the maginificent dance< famously spun by mr levan at the garage - and with the more dubby rare levan version he homes in on looped 1 bar sections, skating along to create a new arrangement - added to the brew are bootleg recordings form the clashes infamous live show at nycs bonds ballroom, and even some baseline demos digitally siphoned from people practicing guitar along to the clash on youtube!….. we are left with is an epic labour of love edit that has already found its way into the a-listers record boxes - from derrick carter to laurent garnier who are all spinning this solid as a rock dub disco bomb. on the flip we have a classy house re-work of al hudson & partners >music< which sticks a chi-town kick and snare up its rear end along with some serious sub bass, and in the middle things get all wobbly with some trademark leo zero space echo rides and before we are quickly warped back-in and onto the floor… big with a load of top jocks too including severino of horse meat disco fame.

stepping out of the shadows in 2007 when just sixteen years old, jokers stock has risen dramatically since. aided by him releasing defining cuts like >digidesign<, >the vision (let me breathe)< and >tron<, he now finds himself thick in the recent resurgence of british electronic music. bbc radio 1s zane lowe premiered >here come the lights< in late july on his coveted hottest record in the world radio spot. moreover joker premiered most of his new albums tracks at the glastonbury festival this past summer, just one stop during a busy summer of worldwide festival performances. with the world traveled and a deal with 4ad signed, he is finally ready to appease his waiting public and release his debut album, the vision. prior to that though, album tracks >here come the lights< featuring silas of turboweekend and >my trance girl<, are being released on a purple coloured double a-side 12 inch.

* missed flight* sees two of drumcodes most prominent artists, cari lekebusch and joseph capriati, team up to deliver a 2 track vinyl ep of essential modern techno.
while lekebusch is a veteran, joseph capriati is part of the upsurge of new talent who have been grabbing increasingly intense attention over the past few years. the pairing of a prodigious new talent (somewhat new – capriati has developed quite a catalogue for an artist in his early twenties) with someone of lekebuschs standing is always an enticing prospect so >missed flight< looks set to turn heads from its billing alone. >missed flight< the track comes on like the perfect theme to the arrival of autumn. the tones are moody and the groove is linear, penetrating and eerily appointed. a kubrick-esque breakdown of pulses and space is the only thing that breaks the momentum and adds a deliciously creepy characteristic to proceedings. track two, >napoli 4am<, balances out its darker tinged predecessor with a shuffling 909 funk and playful groove combination that pairs up with subtly delayed hits deep fm synth work brilliantly.

>living it out< – perhaps the most unabashedly danceable song on janine >planningtorock< rostrons dfa debut album w – comes on (that is to say, seduces) in just the right ways. the song is all addictive disco, with synthesized string skitterings and rostrons voice purring out (she sounds like a futuristic eartha kitt here) a perfect melody that somehow gets even better at the chorus. its pure pleasure upsurge from beat-driven start to pizzicatto end, the kind of song that lets you know that, amidst rostrons many musical idiosyncracies, included is the ability to write a song that simply drags you out onto the dancefloor

manuel tur returns to delusions following his recent classic most of this moment on freerange and proceeds to throw another whacking great curveball for those who have think theyve got his game sussed. its quite safe to say the last year or so manuel has continued to push and redifne himself as a producer, refusing to stick to one sound or repeat himself which has resulted in some amazing releases aswell as some fruitful collaborations. recent remixes for permanent vacation, diynamic and dixons philomena label all display his deeper, left-of-centre and more techno-edged sound. here on delusions we have the (bi) polar opposite in the form of the foolin ep. the title track is a beautiful slice of soul-drenched house which goes for a classic sound with simple horn chords, rolling bass and incessant claps spicing up the groove. a simple vocal refrain is spun in like a dj drops an accapella and once heard this will be stuck in your head for days. a firm fireside favourite with all of us here at dog. theres also an instrumental version of foolin for those with vocalitis. flipping over we have the traveller which sees manuel head down slightly more familiar territory with a heavy, lo-slung groove providing the backdrop for some axelrod-style strings and horns, live bass and floating vocal adlibs. a subtley haunting soundtrack feel pervedes as the arrangement developes but the relentless driving beats make sure this track never strays far from the dancefloor.

ten thousand yen is proud to present our new signing: presk. he weighs in with the sublime 4 track love again e.p. as the first ever 12 inch on tty. we first came across presk in eindhoven last year playing support for doc daneeka. he played a set of straight original material and tore the place down. since then we have heckled and begged until he finally signed his life away to us, and now that we own his soul we plan on sharing it with you. this e.p. comes correct for 2011 - with some of the most relevant dance music around right now, in our humble opinion. sharp edged rhythmic dance music with a distinctly techno lean - we really love the tunes and are super excited about this release, hope you are feeling them too.

the topic of >salome< fits the two producers kadebostan and laolu from switzerland perfectly. just listen to their prior releases on freude am tanzen, fenou or clap your hands. the melodies sway back and forth - dreamy and full of peace. the rhythm group plays along and only the most necessary things. and even though the vocal phrases retain their own character, they blend into this musical structure as if they were made for these tracks. the a and the b face show a masterly crafted arrangement. it would be a mistake not to listen to the whole, as one would miss the feeling to let yourself go. as usual, the lovingly designed 10inch record is a limited edition and numbered by hand

operating from one of the midlands most rejected and decaying brutalist structures, this new label is committed to vinyl releases. adapta is steve conner. steve began making music in 98 when he formed bitstream with his brother dave, releasing music together until 2008. after a 3 year break following a cycling accident, steve has fired up his analogue equipment again. his setup is constructed around a completely redesigned memorymoog from 1982, with roland and elektron hardware. everything is controlled via a custom designed interface, and recorded live.

the strut label returns with a brand new vinyl edition of one of the imprints most in-demand series, disco not disco, exploring original anthems and rarities from the world of reactionary 1970s post-punk and leftfield disco.
with the original two compilations released at the turn of the decade as a new wave of bands like the rapture and lcd soundsystem drew on the musics influence, disco not disco has since been adopted in its own right as a term to describe a whole genre. the compilation is more timely than ever in 2011 as a reference point for a burgeoning mainstream scene.
